What does a home battery cost per kWh in the Netherlands?

A home battery in the Netherlands costs a median of 328 euro per kWh including VAT, measured across 1020 separate offers at 61 Dutch online shops between 2026-08-16 and 2026-09-01. The middle half of the market sits between 249 and 424 euro per kWh. That is the price of the battery itself, without an inverter, without installation and without delivery.

Brand matters more than capacity. The cheapest brands in this measurement come out around 171 euro per kWh (Deye), the dearest around 689 euro (Enphase), a difference of more than threefold for storage that on paper does the same thing.

The same battery costs a median of 22 percent more at the dearest Dutch shop than at the cheapest, measured across 10 models whose identity was verified shop by shop. Comparing prices on a model number is worth more than switching brand.

What does a home battery cost per kWh?

The median is 328 euro per kWh including VAT, across 1020 offers at 61 Dutch online shops. Median means half the offers are cheaper and half are dearer. The mean is deliberately absent, because a handful of very expensive systems drags it up to a figure nobody actually pays.

The spread is wide, and that is a finding in itself. A tenth of offers sit below 203 euro per kWh and a tenth above 540 euro. Anyone buying on price per kWh can find close to a fourfold difference inside the same market.

This index measures storage only. Offers that price in an inverter, an installation or solar panels are filtered out, because their price divided by the battery capacity is not a battery price. Exactly how much was filtered out, and on what grounds, is further down this page.

Price per kWh by capacity class

Larger batteries are cheaper per kWh, but less so than is generally assumed. Below 15 kWh there is barely any economy of scale; above it there is.

The step change is around 15 kWh. Below that line you pay roughly the same per kWh whether you buy 3 or 12 kWh, because the fixed cost of an enclosure, a battery management system and certification is the same per system. Above it, that cost is spread over more cells.

Price per kWh by brand

Only brands with at least eight offers at a minimum of three different online shops. That second threshold is the important one: a single shop's pricing policy is not a market price. 21 brands clear it.

Deye and Enphase sit at the two ends. The difference is mostly in what the price contains: low-voltage racks with no electronics of their own sit at the bottom, AC-coupled systems with an inverter built into every module sit at the top. That is not a quality judgement and this table is not one either.

How much does the shop matter?

For 10 models we could verify identity shop by shop on the manufacturer's part number. For those models the dearest Dutch online shop asks a median of 22 percent more than the cheapest for exactly the same article.

The table names the model, not the shop. This page is a price index and not a price comparison site: anyone who wants to know which shop asks which price can look it up, and we have no interest in doing it for them.

How this index is calculated

Every day the published consumer price of every article at every tracked shop is recorded. For this edition 46693 price observations from 2026-08-16 to 2026-09-01 were examined, across 16 measurement days. The following was then applied in order.

  1. The title has to name exactly one capacity in kWh. Two different figures indicate a package (a 10 kW inverter with a 9.2 kWh battery, say) rather than a battery.
  2. That capacity has to fall between 2 and 30 kWh. Below that it is not a home battery; above it, it is a commercial installation.
  3. The title has to denote a battery and not an accessory, not a package with an inverter or solar panels, and not an offer naming a maximum expandable capacity at the price of the base unit.
  4. What survives has to land between 100 and 1500 euro per kWh. These two bounds sit well over an order of magnitude either side of the answer and only catch what the rules above miss, almost always a configurator publishing a base price under a maximum-configuration title.
  5. If one shop publishes exactly the same price to the cent at two different capacities, both are dropped. That is the signature of a configurator page and no word filter catches it.
  6. What is left is then summarised per offer, meaning per article per shop, using the median of its daily prices over the whole period. Not the last day, so that one failed measurement day cannot move the result.

All percentiles use the nearest-rank method. Prices include 21 percent Dutch VAT and exclude delivery. There is no weighting by revenue or stock: every offer counts once, because we do not know how many of each are sold and have no wish to estimate it.

What was left out, and why

Of 46693 price observations examined, 15968 remain. That is a heavy selection, so each rule is listed here with what it removed. Anyone who thinks a rule is wrong can see how much difference it made.

The largest items are articles that carry kWh in the title without being a battery, and packages with an inverter or solar panels priced in. Both would pull the index up with costs that have nothing to do with storage.

What this index does not say

A price index is a snapshot of asking prices, not advice and not a forecast. Specifically:

  • This edition covers 16 measurement days (2026-08-16 to 2026-09-01). That is too short for a trend, and there is no earlier period to compare it against yet.
  • These are published asking prices, not transaction prices. Volume discounts, quotations and installer rates are not in it.
  • Installation, inverter, cabling and consumer-unit work are deliberately excluded. For an installation-dependent system that is often as large a sum as the battery itself.
  • Price per kWh says nothing about lifetime, warranty term, discharge power or safety. A cheap kWh that is spent after six years costs more than an expensive kWh that lasts fifteen.
  • We sell home batteries ourselves. Our own prices are not in this measurement; only those of other Dutch online shops.
