What does a Marstek home battery cost and do you install it yourself?

From Marstek we currently carry one home battery, at 5.12 kWh, for 1,627 euro including VAT. Measured across the whole Dutch market, Marstek sells at 272 euro per kWh, about 17 percent below the Dutch market median of 328 euro per kWh. That figure comes from our own price index covering 1,020 offers at 61 shops. Marstek uses LFP cell chemistry. We record per model which manufacturer document confirms that chemistry, and that confirmation is still outstanding here, which we would rather state than omit.

A Marstek battery only works with a hybrid inverter the manufacturer has released for that specific combination. You plug it into a wall socket yourself; no installer is needed. A socket battery is capped at roughly 800 watts, so it does not work as backup power. The same model costs a median 22 percent more at the dearest Dutch shop, so compare on model number.

Net-metering ends on 1 January 2027

From that date the feed-in credit for solar power largely disappears. A home battery lets you use more of your own generated power yourself, including in the evening, instead of exporting it at a low rate.

No backup power during outages

Plug-and-play home batteries feed power through the wall socket circuit, which is legally capped at 800W. On a dedicated circuit that rises to roughly 3,500W. Enough to use more of your own solar power, not enough to serve as emergency backup during a power outage.

Marstek home batteries cost 1,627 euro including VAT here, in capacities from 5.12 kWh. That works out at a median 318 euro per kWh. It is the battery itself: on a permanently installed system an inverter and the installation come on top. We carry 1 Marstek model with a known capacity. Separate parts such as BMS and connection modules sit outside that figure, because they store no energy and so have no price per kWh.

Measured across the whole Dutch market, Marstek sells at 272 euro per kWh, about 17 percent below the Dutch market median of 328 euro per kWh. That is a market figure rather than a verdict on the brand, taken from our own price index covering 1,020 offers at 61 Dutch online shops, measured between 2026-08-16 and 2026-09-01. The same model costs a median 22 percent more at the dearest Dutch shop than at the cheapest, so comparing on model number usually pays better than switching brand. None. This is a plug-in battery with its own built-in inverter, so it is not paired with a separate hybrid inverter and not with your existing solar inverter either. It measures household consumption and charges or discharges against it. On permanently installed systems that pairing does decide everything, which is why we maintain a table of 544 manufacturer-approved battery and inverter combinations.

Yes, Marstek uses LFP cell chemistry. LFP is why we carry nothing else: the chemistry is thermally more stable than NMC, and it is also the requirement in our own insurance terms. No. A plug-and-play home battery goes into an ordinary wall socket and needs no change to the consumer unit, so no electrician is required. That is also its limit: the socket sits on a shared circuit, which caps discharge at around 800 watts. For a system that can carry the whole house, or that keeps working during an outage, permanent installation is still required.

From Marstek we currently carry one model at 5.12 kWh. That is enough to shift solar generation into the evening for an average household without a heat pump or an electric car. On the Dutch market the median around this size is 364 euro per kWh in the 8 to 12 kWh class, against 299 euro per kWh around 20 kWh.
