20 kWh home battery: compare prices and brands

A 20 kWh home battery suits high-usage households: a heat pump, an electric car, or a household aiming for near-full self-sufficiency year-round. Compare all 20 kWh systems we supply below, incl. VAT and manufacturer warranty.

What does a 20 kWh home battery cost?

A home battery of roughly 20 kWh costs between 3,520 and 10,913 euro including VAT here. We carry 55 models in this class, from 18 to 25 kWh. On the Dutch market the median price in this class is 299 euro per kWh including VAT, with the middle half between 238 and 375 euro. That is measured across 131 offers at 30 shops, from our own price index. This is the largest class that still makes sense for a house. Above it you are into commercial storage, with different requirements for siting, fire safety and grid connection.

Which capacity you need depends on your annual consumption, your generation and whether you have a heat pump or an electric car, not on roof size alone. Every battery we sell uses LFP cell chemistry. The same model costs a median 22 percent more at the most expensive Dutch shop than at the cheapest, so compare on model number.

Net-metering ends on 1 January 2027

From that date the feed-in credit for solar power largely disappears. A home battery lets you use more of your own generated power yourself, including in the evening, instead of exporting it at a low rate.

Frequently asked questions

Here a battery in this class costs between 3,520 and 10,913 euro including VAT, across 55 models from 18 to 25 kWh. On the Dutch market the median in this class is 299 euro per kWh including VAT, with the middle half between 238 and 375 euro. That is measured across 131 offers at 30 shops, from our own price index. It covers the battery alone, without an inverter and without installation.

For a household with a substantial solar roof and several large loads: a heat pump, an electric car, or both. Rule of thumb: roughly 1 kWh of battery per 1 to 1.5 kWp of panels, so around 20 to 30 kWp. This is the largest class that still makes sense for a house; above it you are into commercial storage, with different requirements for siting, fire safety and grid connection.

Up to this size, yes. The Dutch median falls from 364 euro per kWh around 10 kWh to 299 euro per kWh in this class, because the fixed cost of the enclosure, the BMS and the inverter coupling spreads over more capacity. Above this class it stops: that is commercial storage, with different requirements for siting, fire safety and grid connection, and those costs come back in.

That depends on the system, and it is the first question to settle, because it is worth hundreds of euros. Some models have an inverter built in and are complete. Others are the battery only and need a hybrid inverter the manufacturer has released for that combination. Voltage and communication protocol both have to match. We maintain a table of 544 manufacturer-approved combinations, each row naming its source document.

Yes. A battery of this type is wired permanently into the consumer unit, which is work for a certified electrician under NEN 1010, and the installer also registers the installation with the grid operator. We supply the hardware; installation you arrange yourself or through our installation partner on request. Wiring it yourself in practice voids the factory warranty and can affect your buildings insurance.

Because the Dutch home storage market has no settled prices yet. The same model costs a median 22 percent more at the dearest Dutch shop than at the cheapest, so comparing on model number usually pays better than switching brand. The middle half of all Dutch offers sits between 249 and 424 euro per kWh. That is measured across 1,020 offers at 61 shops. In this capacity class the middle half of offers runs from 238 to 375 euro per kWh. So always compare on the exact model number and convert the price to euro per kWh including VAT.

Where do these figures come from?

Every number on this page comes from one of our three open datasets. They are built independently of our own stock and cover brands we do not sell, so the measurement does not depend on what happens to be in our shop.

  • Dutch home battery price index Median 328 euro per kWh including VAT, measured across 1,020 offers at 61 Dutch online shops between 2026-08-16 and 2026-09-01. With medians per capacity class and per brand, and the full method including every exclusion rule.
  • Cell chemistry per model The cell chemistry of every home battery we sell, established per model, each row naming the manufacturer document it came from, plus the models rejected after checking.
  • Battery and inverter compatibility 544 manufacturer-released combinations of home battery and inverter, merged from official compatibility documents, each row naming its conditions and its source document.
